“The ram is a marvelous creature. Its wool makes the best lining for winter coats this side of the mountains. The horns and bones can be crushed into powder and mixed with the soil for a healthy crop, or charred and ground into ink powder. The hide makes good cover in a window against the winds. You can burn the dung in a pinch. Melt down its fat for candles. I haven’t even mentioned the meat! With a full-grown ram, you could make stew big enough for a village and have enough left over for a week.”

— Letter from a Fereldan farmer to his son
